Biography
FACULTY PROFILE "I graduated with a Master of Arts in Audiology from Northern Illinois University in 1995 and began working as a pediatric audiologist with a specialty in early diagnosis and intervention. After practicing for several years, I felt like I needed to know more so I could do more. I returned to school to obtain a Master of Health Science in Speech Pathology at ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ in 2006. In 2017, I obtained my Doctorate of Audiology from The University of Florida. Being dually certified in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology gives me unique insight and allows me to teach hearing-related courses in a way that is relevant and meaningful to speech-language pathology students. I have been a part of the ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ Faculty since 2010 when I began teaching Audiology as an adjunct instructor. I have been full-time faculty since 2017. I also continue to maintain a small caseload which allows me to continually assess and improve my clinical skills while keeping apprised of new technology. It also provides clinically relevant experience that I infuse into the courses I teach. CURRENT COURSES TAUGHT: CDIS 3500: Speech and Hearing Science

CDIS 3600: Anatomy and Physiology of Speech and Hearing I serve as the Prevention/Screening Coordinator, working with community partners to provide opportunities for GSU graduate students to provide speech, language and hearing screenings to children and adults in surrounding communities. It is a way for our university to provide a vital service for our community while providing our students with hands-on experience assessing speech, language and hearing. I am a member of the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association, The Illinois Speech Language and Hearing Association and The Illinois Academy of Audiology. I was also selected to participate in the ASHA Teaching Symposium on Foundational CSD Science Courses, Innovations in Teaching and Learning: Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. My newest adventure is as part of the GSU STEAM team which engages community school-aged students in science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics. A strong foundation in sciences is so important and being able to make it interesting, interactive and fun has always been my goal." - Leslie Engstrand-Guca
