Biography

FACULTY PROFILE Dr. Hudak is a student-centered professor who enjoys encouraging students to have transformational learning experiences in a variety classroom formats--face-to-face, on-line, or through travel/study abroad classes. She received her Ph.D. in Art Education from The Ohio State University.  A portion of her undergraduate training was undertaken at the University of London. She holds a B.F.A. in Art Therapy. Hudak is a full professor of Art and her passions are specifically in the fields of international higher education leadership, international arts education, and social entrepreneurship. She finds it amazing to be able to nurture wonder and creativity for a living. Hudak has circumnavigated the world twice teaching art with the Semester-At-Sea program. In addition, she has led numerous study/travel programs for students and cultural exchanges for distinguished faculty around the globe. Hudak has been to over 100 countries and it is her greatest joy to travel with students. In higher education, she has held positions as an Art Department Chair, Dean, and Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs. In addition, she has owned her own business and worked as a corporate executive. As an active artist, she has exhibited her work in numerous galleries and museums. Her work is held in many private collections and she has curated over ten exhibitions. In addition to curatorial work, Hudak has given over 25 international presentations and 60 national and state presentations. Her publication record includes 15 articles and many abstracts and book reviews. Her past editorial activities include editorial board member for the United States Society for Education through Arts' Journal of Cultural Studies in Art Education; evaluator for Scholastic Art; and editorial consultant for CHOICE: Current Reviews for Academic Libraries. Her most important contribution to American art education has been her co-authored works by publisher McGraw-Hill, Art Connections K-6 Series, the best-selling elementary art textbook series in the United States and Canada. It is now in its second edition. She also has written two other books, Understanding Art: Teacher's Editionand Exploring Art: Teacher's Edition. Her present research interests are in four areas: Integration of the arts; how professionals can help children build resiliency through the arts; international higher education leadership; and the folk arts of central Europe. Her greatest joy is making art. She presently serves voluntarily as the Secretary of the Executive Board of Women at Risk, International. A non-profit organization that assists sex trafficked survivors in 40 countries. Her students are actively involved with her research related to this community service outreach.
