The College of Arts and Sciences offers a Sociology minor at the undergraduate level. This minor is a good fit for students majoring in other fields, but who find it helpful to master the foundational knowledge of human social lives, groups and societies to gain a deeper understanding to how society works.

Students in this minor gain knowledge and marketable skills necessary to develop solutions to real-world problems, which is an asset to any career in an increasingly global society.

Requirements for a Minor in Sociology

General Requirements

  1. Students must meet all requirements for a minor.
  2. All required courses and selectives for the minor must be completed with a 鈥淐鈥 or higher.

Required Courses (9 Hours)

  • Introduction to Sociology (3)
  • Classic and Contemporary Theories (3)
  • Quantitative Methods (3)
  • Qualitative Methods (3)

Selectives (9 Hours)

Nine hours of the following ANSO and SOC courses, with at least six (6) hours at the 3000- or 4000-level:

  • Gender & Sexuality (3)
  • Making Sense of Social Data (3)
  • Masculinities (3)
  • Contemporary Social Issues (3)
  • Racial and Ethnic Groups (3)
  • Self and Society (3)
  • Class Inequalities (3)
  • Sociology of Sports (3)
  • Social Movements (3)
  • Topics in Sociology (3)
  • Special Topics in Anthropology and Sociology (3)

Note: No more than three (3) credits in total of special Topics Courses ( or ) may be counted as a selective.
